Trick or Treat? How Stars Share Their Favorite Halloween Antics and Anecdotes
Tick or Treat become the emblem of Halloween. And the Star has other ways to celebrate this special holiday
Jason Aldean
Aldean stayed close to home to celebrate the holiday when his kids were younger, making sure to leave an impression on the whole neighborhood.
"A good friend of mine lives pretty close to us, and for the last five or six years, we've taken our kids with their kids and just walk around," Aldean shared with The Boot in 2010. "All the parents dress up, and [in 2009], I was Elvis. I had the white jumpsuit. It was pretty awesome. I always loved Halloween as a kid, and so I make sure I'm at home for the girls and make it fun for them."
More recently, Aldean has been spotted rocking out on Halloween as Axl Rose.
Dierks Bentley
Bentleys childhood Halloweens were ... um, a bit destructive: "To me, as a kid, Halloween was fireworks, blowing up stuff around home," he recalled to The Boot in 2012. "We were all about M-80s in the mailboxes and bottle rocket wars."
Alan Jackson
Jackson doesn't remember having an embarrassing costume himself, but he admits that, one year, he was a little embarrassed for his daughters.
"I remember when they were infants, they had these costumes, and they looked like a little pea pod. It's like a little green pea or something," Jackson shared in 2010. "And I thought, man, that's awful. But [my wife] Denise liked it, and I guess it was cute, but... [laughs]."
Tyler Farr
Farr was always good at getting the candy ... but, he admitted in 2012, he never reaped the rewards.
"It was a great time to go out and trick-or-treat and get candy ... then my parents never lettin' me eat all of it and hidin' and it becoming petrified within a year."
Miranda Lambert
Lambert pulled off a fierce Rosie the Riveter in 2014. She and her band have been known to rock the stages and streets of Nashville as an entire crew -- like in 2015, when they were the Rockford Peaches from A League of Their Own, and in 2013, when they were the Wizard of Oz cast -- but some years, Lambert flies solo, like in 2012, when she dressed up as Honey Boo-Boo from Toddlers and Tiaras.
Brad Paisley
Paisley decorates his house as well as himself for the holiday. In 2014, Paisley told Country Countdown USA that his farmhouse made for an ideal Halloween party spot.
“This is a fun house to do this in," he said at the time. "We call the bar the Potion Room, so this sorta works.”
The artist seems to consistently stick with the superhero theme for his costumes. From Batman to Captain America to Iron Man or his alter-ego, Tony Stark, Paisley seems pretty comfortable in a cape.
Kacey Musgraves
Not one to shy away from making a big statement on a regular day, Musgraves is really into the holiday. In 2014, she rocked Belle's magical golden gown from Beauty and the Beast. In 2015, the artist dressed up like cotton candy -- yes, the food -- and in 2013, she was a sultry witch with her band.
Justin Moore
Moore is not a big fan of Halloween -- in fact, "I absolutely hate Halloween," he shared in 2010. "Everybody makes fun of me because I despise Halloween, and I don't know why. As a child, I was a very serious child, which makes no sense because I'm never serious now. But I never wanted to dress up as a kid."
Luke Bryan
Bryan says Halloween is more than just a chance to dress up; it's also an opportunity to find out what kind of neighbors you really have.
"You can find out a lot about your neighbors by what kind of candy they put out ... like Snickers bars and Reese's cups, [but] the old chocolate popcorn ball of stuff, that's no good. It's like Dots -– you get Dots one time of year and they pull your teeth," Bryan told The Boot back in 2012.
When his boys were little, Bryan wanted to dress them up as a fisherman and a worm, but his idea got shot down by wife Caroline. She was on board in 2015, however, when she and her husband dressed as an elderly couple (in reversed gender roles), and again in 2017, when the couple dressed as dinosaurs for the holiday.
Dave Haywood
Haywood, of Lady Antebellum, remembers a very embarrassing Halloween costume: "I was a die, [half of a pair of dice]. I had a big cardboard box that I had painted white and had the polka dots and stuff," he shared in 2010. "I was walking up this hill and literally fell back down the entire hill, rolling in this giant cardboard box that I couldn't do anything about. I rolled down about 50 feet."
Carrie Underwood
Underwood, a noted vegan, dressed up in 2017 as the only deer that husband (and hunter) Mike Fisher was allowed to catch. In years past, Underwood has channeled a superhero in pajamas, a gypsy with a pirate husband on the side and, a long time ago, an adorable bunny rabbit.
Chris Young
Young says one of his favorite Halloweens was the year he dressed up as a fast food icon.
"I dressed up as the Burger King a couple of years ago," Young told The Boot in 2010. "I had to piece the costume together. We just went around town. Nobody knew who I was because I was in one of those big ole masks that completely covers your head. It wasn't like I went halfway. I probably got more comments and more people taking their picture with me than I do on the road!"
In 2015, Young teased the then-upcoming release of his hit single "I'm Comin' Over" when he dressed up as a SWAT officer a couple of weeks before the song dropped.
LeAnn Rimes
Rimes and her husband Eddie Cibrian get in the holiday spirit every year. In 2011, the couple dressed as trashy newlyweds, complete with a baby bump and teased bangs. In 2012, they made for a smokin'-hot Danny and Sandy from Grease, and in 2017, they showed up as Sonny and Cher.
Darius Rucker
Rucker relishes the opportunity to cash in on a little Halloween humor. When his son was younger, they always dressed up together.
"Last year, my son was Darth Vadar and I was Luke Skywalker, and he would walk around saying, 'I am his father,'" Rucker said in 2010. "This year, I'm going as Brad Paisley. We haven't decided what that entails yet, but I know it's got a Justin Bieber wig involved, and I'm going as Brad [with] some sideburns. I'll make it happen!"
Jana Kramer
Kramer rocked out as Princess Leia with her backing band of Stormtroopers at a Halloween party in 2014. In 2015, Kellie Pickler shared a photo of Kramer dressed as Batgirl, with a little Batbaby on board.
Blake Shelton
When Shelton was a teen, he and a bunch of friends went out "egging" on Halloween -- only, they hit the wrong car. Back in 2010, the country star recalled, "The lights came on, and it was a police officer! He started chasing us. I looked back and saw his flashlight tumbling. [He] tripped trying to chase us down."
Faith Hill
Hill likes to hang with friends on Fright Night. "We usually get together with friends and eat a meal together, just to get food in the stomachs of our kids before we go out trick-or-treating," she shared in 2010. "Then we trick-or-treat for a little while and then come back and hang out."
Jon Pardi
Pardi gets his whole crew in on the Halloween shenanigans. In 2016, they won the night when they performed at Freakfest in Madison, Wisc., dressed as the entire entourage from Toy Story. His social media accounts leave a trail of Halloween memories through the years, and he tells Sounds Like Nashville that he very clearly remembers dressing up when he was a kid very clearly: “Man, I went through phases of costumes: the Superman costume, then it was a ninja, then I was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle one year. I remember rockin’ the Superman.”
Walker Hayes
Hayes and his wife Laney started a costume tradition when they first came to Nashville: "We have orange sweatshirts that we bought our first year in Nashville, and we took a sharpie and drew jack-o-lantern faces on them," the artist shares. "Hers is awesome, and mine looks like my son made it. We get on the ground and we pull the sweatshirts over our knees so our heads look like pumpkin stems."
Hayes is so into the holiday, in fact, that one of the tracks on his album Boom is titled "Halloween."
Randy Houser
Houser says the holiday is full of good memories for him: "I just remember running like hellions all through the night on Halloween. Hay rides were always fun because you got to cuddle up to your little girlfriend. When you're a little kid -- 10 years old or so -- you don't get to hang out with your girl that much. [Laughs] You got to cuddle up because it was always a little bit chilly outside ... Your little girlfriend always wanted to get warm at that time."
